Spelunky is a freeware roguelike platformer where players explore dangerous caves filled with traps, treasure, and enemies. Each playthrough is randomly generated, making the game endlessly replayable. This is the original Windows version released for free by developer Derek Yu.
¶ 📥 Installation
Spelunky is available in the Windows Freeware section via Batocera Unofficial Add-Ons (BUA):
- Open Batocera Unofficial Add-Ons from the Ports menu.
- Navigate to the Windows Freeware section.
- Select Spelunky and press Install.
- Once installed, Spelunky will appear in the Windows section in EmulationStation.

- Explore procedurally generated caves filled with traps, treasure, and surprises.
- Collect loot, rescue damsels, and survive as long as you can.
- Death is permanent, but every run is a chance to get further.
- Use a gamepad or keyboard to run, jump, whip, and throw bombs.

- Graphics: Retro pixel art in fixed resolution; no scaling options needed.
- Saving: Progress resets per run; high scores are saved.
- Run Compatibility: Works via Wine, tested for stability on Batocera.

This is the original 2008 freeware release of Spelunky by Derek Yu. A commercial HD version is available on other platforms.
