¶ Steam Add-On Guide
Steam is the largest digital distribution platform for PC gaming. This add-on installs the native Linux version of the Steam client, allowing you to launch and play compatible Linux games or stream games from another machine using Steam Remote Play.
¶ 📥 Installation
Steam is available through the Batocera Unofficial Add-Ons (BUA) system:
- Open Batocera Unofficial Add-Ons from the Ports menu.
- Navigate to the Game Utilities section.
- Select Steam and press Install.
- Once installed, Steam will appear in the Ports section of EmulationStation.
¶ 🎮 How to Use
- Launch Steam from EmulationStation.
- Sign in to your Steam account.
- Browse and install games compatible with Linux.
- You can also use Steam Remote Play to stream games from another PC on the same network.
⚠️ Note: Not all Steam games support Linux. Check compatibility before installing.
¶ ⚙️ Configuration
- Controller Support: Steam supports most gamepads, including Xbox and PlayStation controllers.
- Steam Overlay: Some features may be limited depending on your GPU and driver support.
- Game Locations: Steam games are stored in
/userdata/system/add-ons/steam/.steam.config/overlays/upperdir/home/steamapps/commonby default.
¶ 🛠️ Troubleshooting

| Steam won’t launch | Try restarting Batocera or reinstalling the add-on. |
| Missing fonts or broken UI | Ensure the proper system fonts are installed (Steam handles this automatically in most cases). |
| Can’t launch a game | Check if the game supports Linux natively or requires Proton (not currently supported in Batocera). |
| Controller not detected | Configure controller in Steam Big Picture mode or via EmulationStation first. |
